Who is the Small Business Hosting service for?
The Small Business Hosting Service is intended for small business clients who want a complete website solution: a website with domain name, email accounts, e-commerce and a wide range of business support tools. What is the difference between Developer and Small Business hosting?
The Small Business Hosting account comes with features more suited to a small business client. It is intended for complete domain hosting (eg. www.YourCo.com); it comes with more space and more email and FTP accounts. Can I get 'www.FredsPestControl.com' as an address?
Yes, you can register any name you like, subject to availability and appropriateness. There are normally 2 costs with domains - 1. name registration and 2. DNS hosting:
1. If you do it yourself, you can find domain name registration for under $10 US/year for a .com. If you have NOT registered a domain name and don't want to get involved with that, I can provide domain name registration at competitive rates (approx $10-15 US/year - subject to availability)
2. DNS hosting cost is included with the Small Business hosting package. How much disk space do I get?
A Small Business account gets 100MB of configurable webspace. Extra space is available. What about the applications I upload to the server?
It is expected that you test all applications locally before uploading them to the server. This will help to minimize any problems on the server. I strongly recommend setting up your development structure similar to mine, to minimize path problems. (Instructions for setup are provided in the manual). You should be comfortable hand-coding programs in case you have to remove any hard-coded paths or otherwise adjust your programs and/or dBASE-generated HTML pages. Are there any restrictions on what I can do in code?
The following restrictions apply to what content you can post to the server:
- No ADULT MATERIAL
- No STREAMING AUDIO or VIDEO (even if you have the copyright)
- No OBJECTIONABLE MATERIAL OF ANY KIND at the sole discretion of the webmaster.
As well as content, there are the following restrictions which apply to your dBASE code:
- No hard-coded paths
- No Windows registry access in code
- No BDE access in code
- No CPU-hogging programs
- No excessively large response pages.
I have a business to run! Do you offer support?
Yes, I offer support to assist you in setting up your site and development computer. I will assist you in getting your site up and running, but I am not a programming tutor or a code-checking service. My primary customer market is dBASE developers, who should be comfortable with programming their own applications and designing their own website. If you ask, I will attempt to help you with any ongoing problems. I assist clients and others on the dBASE.com newsgroups as well. How do I know how busy my site is?
Each domain account has access to weblog stats (Webalyzer), as well as raw log files.Thank you!
